More impressions of EPE'22 ECCE Europe:

Welcome

The EPE 2022 ECCE Europe conference will take place in Hannover, Germany, from 5 to 9 September 2022, where participants will gain detailed insights into the state of the art of power electronics and its applications, and enjoy the exchange with other enthusiasts from all over the world who are interested in this highly relevant and constantly growing area.

The 24th European Conference on Power Electronics and Applications will be organized in cooperation with Leibniz University Hannover. Following Aachen (1989), Dresden (2005) and Karlsruhe (2016), we are looking forward to host the community of power electronics in Germany for the fourth time .

The EPE Association welcomes researchers, academics and industrials to Hannover, the capital of the state of Lower Saxony and one of the greenest cities in Germany, in autumn 2022. The state of Lower Saxony is home of important companies and is at the forefront of the transition to E-Mobility and of Energiewende as a whole. The trade fairs at Hannover have made the city famous in engineering disciplines worldwide. Hannover can be reached easily by high-speed trains, by air and by car.

Conference Information

EPE’22 ECCE Europe: In-Presence Conference

EPE’22 ECCE Europe will take place as an in-presence event and will bring together experts from industry and academia to a real and direct face-to-face discussion.

New Layout

The layout of the conference has been adjusted in order to underline the importance of our Dialogue Sessions. That’s why we moved them to the centre of our conference. The dialogue sessions will take place around mid-day of all three main conference days. They will take place in the same hall as the exhibition, which is therefore also receiving highest attention possible.

Thursday Sept. 8 is a full conference day! You don’t want to miss the inspiring lecture sessions and the panel discussions in the afternoon (ending ca. 18.00). There is also a social event in the evening. On top, Friday is full of attractive events, see below!

Tutorials are not only scheduled on the Monday before the conference, but also on the Friday after the conference. This assures you can select from a larger choice and attend more of the attractive Tutorials given by high-ranking specialists in their fields of expertise.

Highlighted Focus Topics

The conference will highlight several Focus Topics. Three of them cover the latest technology trends that will be driving future innovation in power electronics, while the three other topics cover important application trends that will have a tremendous impact on future markets and requirements for power electronic systems. These topics have been selected as follows:

Technology Focus Topics:

Icon_FT_1_New_Power_Electronic_Devices

New Power Electronic Devices

Innovations in power electronic devices, not only in WBG but also in Silicon and High-Power semiconductors, will help to further increase the efficiency, power density and robustness of power electronics systems.

Icon_FT_2_Integration_and_Adverse_Effects_of_WBG_Devices

Integration and Adverse Effects of WBG Devices

While WBG devices allow faster switching and higher efficiency, they also come with increased requirements on the surrounding components. This includes passive components, especially magnetics, as well as embedding the switches into the commutation cell. Monolithic integration can be a key to handle the resulting challenges.

Batteries in Power Electronics

The availability of high-capacity batteries has made E-mobility a reality. Further improvements in battery technology will provide even higher ranges and will enable even more mobile applications of power electronics, including electric aviation. On the other hand, their characteristics, especially when combined with power electronics, need more attention.

Application Focus Topics:

Icon_FT_4_Electrification_of_Aircraft

Electrification of Aircraft

Among the most fascinating application trends is the electrification of air transportation. This Focus Topic will highlight the role of electric drives in the future of zero-emission aircraft.

Icon_FT_5_Electrification_of_Vehicles

Electrification of On- and Off-Road Vehicles

While the electrification of passenger cars has come a long way, the trends and perspectives of future developments will be discussed. Even higher challenges have to be met in the electrification of utility vehicles.

Icon_FT_6_Electricity_and_Hydrogen-based_Energy_Systems

Electricity and Hydrogen based Energy Systems

In a carbon-free future, not only regenerative energies but also Hydrogen will play a key role. Trends of applications, as well as electrolysis power supply will be highlighted.

All Focus Topics feature a Keynote presentation, an Invited Lecture Session and a panel discussion called Industrial Forum. For the Technology Focus Topics, we arranged a number of Tutorials. Many of the Focus Topics are enriched with a Technical Tour.

Stay until Friday !

We will gather at the Hannover Congress Center (HCC) for the main conference days from Tuesday September 6 to Thursday September 8. On Monday September 5 (and on Friday!), Tutorials will take place in the rooms of Leibniz University Hannover. On Friday September 9 you have a large selection of activities:

    • Almost half of the Tutorials will take place on Friday, so you have a larger selection and can attend more of the Tutorials by high-ranking speakers.
    • A variety of interesting Technical Tours will take place on Friday
    • As a co-located event, the ECPE-Workshop on High Power Electronics will take place on Friday in Hannover, at another location.

The DFG-funded Priority Program GaNius is meeting at Leibniz University of Hannover. The project presentations are also open for guests.

Social Activities

Monday September 5

In the evening, the IEEE PELS Young Professionals (YP) Reception will take place at Leibniz University Hannover. This great opportunity for networking is not only open to all young power electronics engineers, but also to those who want to share some of their experience from a longer career with the PELS Young Professionals.

Tuesday September 6

The traditional Welcome Reception will take place in the exhibition hall at the Conference venue. There will also be the opportunity to join a WiE sponsored networking event – details will be published soon.

Wednesday September 7

As a central and highly esteemed occasion for networking in a nice environment, we plan for a large social event, the Gala Diner, in a location very close to the conference.

Thursday September 8

Another reason to stay for Friday! We plan for a relaxed and typically German event in a friendly atmosphere.

Invitation by the Conference Chairman:

Introduction to the Conference:

Submission of Final Full Papers

FINAL Deadline: Monday, 11 July 2022 !

New submission policy

As approved by the newly elected EPE Association Executive Council for future EPE ECCE Europe Conferences and in effect for EPE’22 ECCE Europe:

• Submission of provisional full papers (6-8 pages)
• Firm and only deadline: 31st of March 2022

This is a new opportunity to submit latest and up-to-date research results for presentation at the conference in September 2022 in Hannover. The previous two-stage review process based on submitted synopses will be abandoned for EPE’23 ECCE Europe.

We underline that EPE’22 ECCE Europe will be held as In-Presence Conference on site. Opportunities for submission of tutorials and for the exhibition are still open.

We are looking forward to receive your uploads and to seeing you in Hannover!
